I'm drawn to things with an interior logic — the kind that only opens up once you've spent real time with them.

Carnatic music is one. It took years of training before I understood what I was actually hearing. Painting is another. So are K-dramas and anime, which I take more seriously than most people think is warranted.

The essays on this site came from that same instinct — using fictional worlds as a way to think through real ideas about design, technology, and how people actually behave.

By day I'm a data scientist at McKinsey, working on human behaviour and assessment. The question I keep returning to is how you get at what people are actually like, rather than what they say about themselves.

I'm based in Los Angeles — for the light, the strangeness, and the fact that it's a city that quietly contains a lot of different kinds of life in one place.
